The bottom of the door touches the top of the brick. She places a brick on the floor, on it’s side to keep the door open. You could probably drive a semi under it. There’s a comically large gap under the door. Apparently there’s no work to be found and she seems to want to get as far away as possible and start a new life.ĭuring this time, Jessica starts cleaning out the walk-in pantry in the kitchen. Her mother has recently passed away and she’s working to clean the place up and packing up what little she owned. Her and the kids are staying in a dilapidated, secluded house that used to belong to Jessica’s mother. She was the same before going straight with the help of rehab.

She’s separated from their father, Rob (Jake Horowitz), who is a crack addict. Jessica (Rainey Qualley) is a mother of two, her toddler daughter Lainey (Luciana VanDette) and her infant son. They didn’t want to spell it all out for the audience and I respect that, but maybe more foundation could have been laid down to help support some actions. The characters are good, they have depth to them. You will see what I mean if you watch it.

I can’t help keep in mind that the entire movie hinges on the placement of a brick. Unfortunately, the story here isn’t the strongest. Then again, Hollywood keeps lowering the bar with each passing year.Īs I’ve said before, a common requirement for any movie to succeed is either a strong story or strong characters at the very least. So far they are not doing a bad job showing intent. Their strategy is to become a major entertainment streaming service, like Netflix or Disney+.
I’d love to see her in more films.Shut In is the first original movie from Daily Wire, the second when counting Run Hide Fight, which they didn’t produce, but purchased. The little girl played by Luciana Vandette is completely adorable. Her costars also give powerful performances: Jake Horowitz and Vincent Gallo. They all did a great job, especially Rainey Qualley. I had never seen any of the actors before. As the movie progresses, we see her attitude toward her children change from annoyance to fierce devotion. We’re able to get inside of the mother’s head as she anguishes over every decision.
The camera angles constantly change and keep the scenes interesting. The cinematography is very well done, especially considering all of the tight spaces and angles in which the camera had to work. The film does a great job at creating and building tension, especially for mothers who will be watching their worst nightmare unfold and experiencing a roller-coaster ride of emotions. They all represent sacrifice, inspiration, temptation, and rebirth. Notice symbols of apples, where blood is shown, and even the manner in which a character emerges through a structure. There are so many subtle symbols that add intriguing layers to the story. That sounds like a horror movie, right? Well, it kind of is, as well as a thriller filled with harrowing moments.

She has to use ingenuity to protect her toddler and baby from escalating danger on the other side of the heavy pantry door while trying to figure out how to escape. The story of this second film is about a young mother who gets locked inside her big pantry by her violent ex-boyfriend. Just because The Daily Wire is involved doesn’t mean this is a movie filled with conservative propaganda. This second film is different in that The Daily Wire was involved with the actual production of the movie. The first one was a movie that was already made when they bought the distribution rights. They claim they are tired of Hollywood producing films with a leftist political and social agenda, so they have now gotten into the movie business! You can see my movie review of their first film called Run, Hide, Fight by clicking here. The conservative news site “The Daily Wire” has now produced two feature films with more to come. This gritty and dramatic thriller is now available on The Daily Wire We may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post when you make a purchase.
